Ejector Pump Service

Installation, repair, and replacement of ejector pumps for basement bathrooms and below-grade plumbing

Ejector pumps are essential in homes with basement bathrooms, laundry rooms, or other plumbing fixtures located below the level of the main sewer line. Unlike sump pumps that handle groundwater, ejector pumps handle sewage and wastewater, grinding and pumping it up and out to the main sewer line. When an ejector pump fails, it's a plumbing emergency. DJB Plumbing diagnoses, repairs, and replaces ejector pumps for Northshore homes quickly and correctly.

How an Ejector Pump Works

Wastewater from below-grade fixtures flows by gravity into a sealed basin (pit) in the basement floor. When wastewater in the basin reaches a set level, a float switch activates the pump, which grinds and forces the waste up through a pipe to the main sewer or septic line above. A check valve prevents backflow when the pump shuts off.

Signs Your Ejector Pump Needs Service

  • Sewage odors coming from the basement or pit area
  • Sewage backing up into the basement toilet or floor drain
  • Pump running constantly or cycling on and off rapidly
  • Pump not activating when basin fills
  • Gurgling sounds from basement drains
  • Pit lid not sealed properly
  • Pump is more than 7-10 years old

Our Ejector Pump Services

Ejector Pump Diagnosis & Repair

We inspect the pump, float switch, check valve, and discharge line to identify the fault. Many issues, including float switch failure, clogged impeller, or a failed check valve, can be repaired without full replacement.

Ejector Pump Replacement

When replacement is needed, we remove the old unit, clean the basin, and install a properly rated pump for your below-grade fixture load. We seal the pit lid, test the float switch, and verify the check valve before we leave.

New Ejector System Installation

Adding a basement bathroom or laundry room requires an ejector system if you're below the sewer line. We install the pit, pump, discharge line, and vent to code, coordinating with any necessary permits.

Check Valve & Float Switch Service

The check valve and float switch are the components most likely to fail first. We service or replace them independently when the pump itself is still in good condition, extending the life of the system.

Ejector Pump vs. Sump Pump: What's the Difference?

A sump pump handles clear groundwater from the pit around your foundation. An ejector pump handles sewage and wastewater from below-grade plumbing fixtures. They are separate systems with different pits, different pumps, and different discharge paths. Many Northshore homes with finished basements have both. If you're not sure which you have or which needs service, we can assess both during a single visit.
